Microsoft Fabric end to end project tutorial

Microsoft Fabric went into general availability back in November 2023, so I was intrigued on what we could do with this new analytics platform, so I ended up activating my free trial for a 60 days period, in order to learn as much as possible about Fabric and see what we could do with it.

So I ended up developing an end to end project that you can watch and learn about as follows.

Scope of the project

This is a tutorial that covers, by following a medallion architecture, how to ingest data from an API in JSON format, how to transform raw data by using a notebook that runs in a Spark cluster within Fabric, and how to create and populate some dimensions and a fact table with an incremental load. All orchestrated with fabric data factory. Finally we are able to visualize the data about trends of Bitcoin prices in a Power BI report.

You can find some elements of the project as follows (video demo at the end of the post [1 hour long]).

Next steps

This tutorial is a first part of a Microsoft Fabric project, the second part is about how to use Fabric Data Science workload for doing forecasting about Bitcoin prices, that you will be able to find within the Microsoft Fabric category in this blog.
